Adidas, the men's fashion brand, has reached its 60th anniversary.

The global brand, which is famous for its three stripes, was created by Adi Dassler, "a modest shoemaker from a small rural town in Germany" on August 18th 1949.

According to Adidas, during its lifetime products which include clothing, shoes and watches, have been worn by many of the best athletes in the world during their defining performances.

Erich Stamminger, president of the adidas brand, said that wearers have included long jump record breaker Bob Beamon's and tennis player Steffi Graf during her Golden Slam in 1988.

These achievements displayed the same passion and spirit that Dassler showed when he first created the company, Mr Stamminger explained.

He added: "The motivation of our company founder and his close association with sport will continue to shape our path in future on our way to becoming the world's leading sports brand."

Mr Dassler died in 1978 aged 78 but his spirit continues to live on, Mr Stamminger concluded.

Adidas launched an advert featuring a range of stars including David Beckham, Missy Elliott, Method Man and Estelle to begin celebrating its 60th birthday last year.
