IT support provider Connect Support Services reveals that men are less stressed in the typical workplace due to computer equipment.

Around six per cent of men in a survey commissioned by the firm revealed that they have experienced IT-related stress to such a degree that it has impacted on their home lives.

However, among women the proportion of stressed computer-users was more than double that figure.

In all, 14 per cent of female respondents reported significant levels of stress related to their workplace use of IT.

The research also found doubt among members of both sexes as to the likelihood of representing women more equally within the ICT industry itself.

Around a third (34 per cent) of male IT directors claimed that there are no steps that could be taken to entice more women into ICT careers.

But 29 per cent of women already in the profession claimed that they are currently being biased against - suggesting that there are still steps to take.

And the majority of female respondents added that they would prefer to be able to work whatever hours they choose, rather than be constrained by a rigid working day.

In a previous study, more than 40 per cent of women surveyed by Connect said that their main ambition in their IT career was to keep their job during the current economic downturn.
