Although footballer David Beckham's Armani underwear advertising campaign may have won him as many fans as his skills on the football pitch, it has left his own children confused, the star has admitted.

The LA Galaxy player signed a three-year deal, believed to be worth $41 million, to model Armani's underwear in 2007.

He has since been seen on billboards and fashion magazines across the world posing alone and with his wife, fashion designer and ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.

However, in an interview with People magazine, Beckham said that despite all the publicity and female attention the ads have drawn his children do not understand why he is only wearing his underwear.

The footballer added: "They don't mind. If they were older they'd be embarrassed, maybe."

Beckham also revealed that the couple's son Cruz was named after the movie star Tom Cruise, as he was one of the first people the pair spoke to after the youngest member of their family was born.

As well as football and modelling, the star said he has other interests and likes to keep his household in order by vacuuming and cleaning.

The couple have two other sons Brooklyn, aged ten, and Romeo, aged six, as well as the four-year-old Cruz.
