Gaming Addiction is Ending Relationships

A warning has been issued to men who think their girlfriend is bluffing when she threatens to leave if they don't turn off their games console.

According to new research, ten per cent of relationships have ended as a result of one person being addicted to video games.

The study of 1,823 men and women by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk revealed that one in five women have even split with their husband or boyfriend due to being neglected while their partner saves the world or becomes a war hero.

Hugely popular war simulator Call of Duty was named as the number one cause of arguments, followed by soccer game FIFA.

Grand Theft Auto IV, Assassins Creed and Resident Evil made up the remainder of the top five.

Retail expert Mark Pearson, managing director of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said: "The term 'Call of Duty Widow' has been bandied about a lot recently to describe somebody who has been left out in the cold by their partner's addiction to the hit PS3 and Xbox 360 game – but I think the term 'Next-Gen widow' is more apt."

However, the technology fascination was found not to be a trait exclusive to men.

Mr Pearson explained that women were just as likely to neglect their partners for the amount of time they spend online.
