Michael Jackson has proved that even in death he is the King of Pop by dominating the midweek catalogue album charts in the US.

Figures released by Nielsen SoundScan revealed that the top nine places in the Billboard's Top Pop Catalogue Albums chart belonged to Jackson, who passed away on June 25th due to a cardiac arrest.

His two compilations, Number Ones and The Essential Michael Jackson as well as his seminal long-player Thriller have all sold over 100,000 copies in the last week

Meanwhile, the 1984 classic Off the Wall sits at number four with Bad at number six and
The Jackson 5's The Ultimate Collection in the middle of the top ten.

Jackson sold 415,000 albums in total in the last week, a figure which represents nearly 40 per cent more than the total sales of his catalogue during the rest of the year up to June 21st.

The statistics showed that over half of this figure was made up from digital downloads through websites such as iTunes and Amazon.

News of the chart success follows an announcement that ticket holders for the gigs at the O2 Arena in London are being offered a full refund or a souvenir ticket "inspired and designed" by the pop star.
