Five Things Men Don’t Know About Men

Mar 11, 2010 | Posted by | 0 Comments

Important Things Men Should Know

Sure, you’re a man. You know which sports teams you prefer, how to get from point A to B without asking for directions, and how to troubleshoot an engine. You’re probably unaware of some general facts about your sex though. Here is a selection of five things you didn’t know about men, but you probably should know.

Men concentrate at the most literal level

For most activities, men use one side of the brain at a time. The left hemisphere (known for being more logical/rational than the right) is the one where men do most their processing. Women, however, tend to use both sides at once. This multi-tasking helps explain why they can be so difficult to understand at times. Using just the left side of the brain during arguments generally leads to a task-oriented, fix-it attitude. Conversely, women are more likely to integrate their feelings and alternative solutions into the mix.

Men can do Kegels

Kegel exercises have been getting a lot of coverage lately, but most of it seems geared more towards women than men. This is too bad since Kegel exercises work just as well for men. They are designed to exercise your pubococcygeus (PC) muscles, which control your urine and semen stream, ejaculation power, and erection firmness. Keeping these PC muscles strong will improve your sex life by giving you more control, lasting power, and the chance to carry these skills well into old age. There are a variety of exercise sets you can try. Most involve clenching and releasing at various intervals. All, however, can be done anywhere and anytime without anybody noticing. To locate your PC muscles, simply interrupt the flow of urine next time you’re taking a leak. The muscles you feel contracting will be the ones in question.

You also have a G-spot

The G-Spot is an erogenous zone that can increase sexual excitement and orgasm when stimulated. The lesser-known male G-spot is the prostate gland and located halfway up the anus. The location might not be worth it for some, but it’s worth considering if you’re looking for new ways to up your sexual pleasure. Taking some precautions beforehand (research, lubrication, nail trimming, etc.) can make the experience less frightening whether you or a partner will be stimulating the spot.

A large number of men are potent in old age

While new research has shown that male sperm production and quality begins declining with age, others are demonstrating that over 70 percent of men are still able to perform sex at age 70. It’s unknown how much of this is caused by relatively recent advancements in the male-enhancement field of medicine. Similarly, a survey of sexless marriages found that 54 percent of the men stopped having sex because they were angry. Twenty-eight percent of the female respondents ended intimacy within, or before, the first year. Few of either sex were just too tired or busy. There seem to be many misconceptions about old age and sex.

The paternal instinct is strong

This statement may not be a surprise exactly, but it’s worth noting that recent studies have shown the paternal instinct and bond to be just as biological, strong, and important as the maternal ones. Testosterone levels, for example, tend to experience a decline leading up to the birth of one’s child. In theory, these lower testosterone levels minimize aggression and make it easier to form a new bond.

Gillette Creates War Over New Mens Razor

Gillette’s New Mens Razor Creates War

The blade count of Gillette’s upgraded mens Fusion razor is to stay the same, contrary to speculation.

Men can expect the new version, called the ProGlide, to have thinner blades, a better grip, a hair microcomb and ‘mineral-oil lubrication’, making for a smoother shave.

The redesign specifically addresses the daily problem faced by men when shaving – the tugging and pulling of skin.

It is the first new shaver developed by Gillette since Proctor & Gamble bought the company in 2005.

According to Proctor & Gamble, the five-blade Fusion accounts for almost half, or 45 per cent, of mens razors sold in the US.

Razors have long competed on blade count, with the first two-blade razor created by Gillette in 1971. In 1998, in competition with the three-blade Japanese Kai razor, it created the three-bladed Mach3.

While Gillette hopes to remain “the best a man can get” they might be under fire from its rival, King of Shaves.

King of Shaves is launching its Azor M Alloy system next month, which uses its patented Bendology Technology to allow shavers to get to the hard-to-reach places such as under the nose.

Why Women Can’t Get a Good’s Nights Rest Because of Their Spouse

Men Don’t Let Women Sleep

Women are getting less sleep than they need because their partners keep disturbing them, according to a new study.

A Sleep Research Center at the UK’s Loughborough University found that women are the most likely to complain about sleeping problems.

They also need to sleep more deeply than men, because they exercise more of the brain functions associated with intelligence, language, memory and consciousness, claims Professor Jim Horne in the UK’s Times newspaper.

The famed multi-tasking abilities of women mean they need more deep sleep – 20 minutes more on average – to recover for the next day, whereas men, who are more likely to work sequentially, sleep less deeply for shorter periods of time than women.

One of the main reasons identified for women’s night disturbances were snoring and restless husbands and boyfriends.

Research in recent years has shown the same results. Last year, two separate studies found that women who had sleep deprivation suffered a whole host of health problems, which were not experienced by men experiencing similar sleep deficits.

These included hypertension, raised insulin levels and more psychological distress.

Male Plastic Surgery is on the Rise

Men: Plastic Surgery on the Rise

Male plastic surgery is on the rise, according to figures from the UK.

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has said some procedures have leapt in popularity, despite the global economic downturn.

According to the association, demand for gynaecomastica operations nearly doubled by 80 per cent, moving from the fifth most popular procedure for men to the third.

Gynaecomastia – the condition publicized by Meatloaf in the film Fight Club – is commonly referred to as ‘man boobs’ or ‘moobs’.

Experts claim the rise is due to more publicity around the procedures and increased pressure for men to look as good in their personal lives and in the workplace as their female counterparts.

Paul Collins, the editor of Looking Good, the publication for plastic surgery advisors BuyAssociation, said: “It’s very difficult to quantify, but you could point a finger towards the lifestyle side of things.

“People perceive that they don’t have the time to use more traditional methods – to take up exercise as a lifestyle option – and they are looking at surgery as a short cut.”

Other trends in male plastic surgery included the brow lift (up 51 per cent), facelifts (up 23 per cent) and stomach tucks (up 20 per cent).

Are There Benefits of Running Barefoot

Jan 29, 2010 | Posted by | 0 Comments

Running Barefoot is Better For You, Scientists Say

Rather than splashing out on the latest high-tech shoes, runners looking to avoid injury while keeping fit should opt to go barefoot, scientists have claimed.

According to research carried out by a team working at Harvard University, barefoot runners tend to land on the middle or front of the foot, thereby keeping impact collision rates to a minimum.

In comparison, shoe runners, including those paying good money for the latest in running shoe technology, tend to strike the ground with their heels, with this increasing levels of impact and ultimately damaging the foot and lower leg.

And, though most joggers would be wary of heeding such advice, writing up the team’s findings in the journal Nature, lead researcher Daniel Lieberman noted that it’s never too late to change running style.

“Most people today think barefoot running is dangerous and hurts, but actually you can run barefoot on the world’s hardest surfaces without the slightest discomfort and pain,” he stated.

“All you need is a few calluses to avoid roughing up the skin of the foot.”

At the same time, a new paper in the Journal of Applied Physiology has claimed that the benefits of exercise can be significantly affected by the type of food eaten after a workout, with low-carb meals tending to lead to heightened insulin sensitivity.

Am I a Healthy Male? Early Signs of Male Health Problems

Top 10 Signs That Show You’re a Healthy Man

Let’s assume you’re one of those men who wake up every morning, run 4 miles on the treadmill, eat healthy, well-balanced meals, take vitamins, and get plenty of rest. You shouldn’t have anything to worry about, right? However, you might not be as healthy as you think. Our bodies are constantly talking to us, but in ways that might not be so obvious. The trick is to get in tune with your body listen when it has something to tell you.

Below are the top 10 signs to look for that will prove that you are in fact, a healthy man.

1. Heart Rate Between 60 and 100 bpm

A healthy heart rate is a major determining factor of good health. And while 60 – 100 seems like a broad spectrum, anywhere in this 40 point range is pretty healthy for an average adult male. More specifically, a heart rate of 70-75 bpm is just about as good as you can get.

2. Steady Breathing

This is something that goes hand in hand with having a healthy heart rate. Sudden changes in breathing can indicate health problems of all sorts. An average healthy man should have a steady breath pattern and not become too winded from minimal physical activity.

3. Pale Yellow Urine Color

One of the top signs of realizing your immediate health is by the color of your urine. It might not sound like a realistic way of gauging your wellness, but checking what comes out of your body is an excellent way of seeing how things are going on the inside. Healthy pee is pale yellow in color, but can vary based on how much water you drink. In most cases, the lighter, the better. If your urine is dark amber and very strong in scent, you should have a urine culture done to see what the problem is.

4. All of Your Senses are Intact

This may seem like the most obvious sign of good health, and you’re right – it is. However, temporary loss of one or more of the five senses could mean a variety of things including infection. Definitely not something to ignore.

5. Skin Elasticity

Try pinching the skin on the top of your hand and see how quickly it bounces back. If it goes back instantly, you’re all good. If it takes a while, you might be dehydrated, which is a lack of fluids.

6. Bright Eyes

If you’re eyes are bright in color and white around the sides with no redness, you’re on the right track. Malnutrition and exhaustion can be detected by the state of the eyes and the membranes that exposed when you pull the lower lid outward.

7. Hard, Pink Fingernails

Unhealthy fingernails can be signs of many serious healthy problems, ranging from iron deficiency (anemia) to respiratory problems. An average healthy male’s fingernails should be light pink in color and firm to touch. Brittle or yellow fingernails indicate problems.

8. Normal Stool

A healthy bowel movement is one of the key signs of great health. An average healthy man has a daily stool that is not too firm or too soft. So, if you aren’t straining while on the throne, you can consider yourself in pretty good standing. Things you don’t want to be experiencing are diarrhea, blood, and constipation.

9. A Healthy Ejaculation

Studies have shown that how much a man ejaculates can be an early detection of problems such as fertility issues and general health. A healthy ejaculation is around 3.5ml or roughly a tablespoon. Color and consistency should also be considered. Basically, you’re looking for something along the lines of white/gray and sticky. Overly runny semen or any blood can mean trouble and should definitely be discussed with a doctor.

10. Good Mental Health

Although problems such as depression and anxiety are not necessarily physical problems, they can be the cause of many physical health issues down the road. Everyone has good days and bad days, but if you generally feel happy and satisfied with life, you can consider yourself in good mental health.
