Traditional Gender Roles of Housework
Traditional Gender Roles in Housework and the Time Differences
According to a male housework poll, women take twice as long as men to perform their chores around the house before leaving for work.
Research commissioned by Stylist Magazine showed that the average male housework can be completed in 49 minutes.
However, females spend two hours and three minutes on errands around the house before work.
Statistics of women with children without jobs are inconclusive. Although nearly 80 per cent of women with children quizzed said they felt like they had done a full day’s work before arriving at work.
A further 53 per cent of women without children said they feel the same before getting to their office.
Lisa Smosarski, editor of Stylist magazine, told the Daily Telegraph: “Women have a lot more to juggle now and there is still this stereotypical image of them doing the housework and the cooking.
“They don’t feel put upon but it is more challenging as for most it is compulsory to go to work for financial reasons.”
Further findings from the study revealed that the average woman spends the best part of a month of every year getting ready to go to work.

Shaq speaks out in favor of new NBA Twittering guidelines
Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal has publicly lent his support to the campaign to limit the use of social networking sites like twitter in professional sports.
Despite the fact that Shaq has emerged as one of the biggest enthusiasts of Twitter over the past few months, using the micro-blogging application to stay in contact with his fans, he has spoken out in support of new rules banning players from posting Tweets during games.
“I think that rule was applied to those who use it irresponsibly, but I don’t really tweet during games anyway,” the Cleveland Cavaliers centre stated.
“There were a lot of uncalled-for situations this summer, guys doing things that really aren’t good for themselves or the NBA brand on twitter. I think that rule was more suited toward them. I’ve always done things above board,” he added.
At the same time, the life story of one of the NBA’s other big names and fellow Cavaliers player has been transformed into a movie, which is due to be released in the US over the coming days.
‘More Than a Game’ will chart Lebron James’s improbable rise from an impoverished background to professional basketball.

Women shoppers are put off buying goods from attractive staff, new research has revealed.
A study by researchers at the University of South Australia, published in the Journal of International Business and Economics, showed that women were more unwilling to make a purchase if they deemed themselves less attractive than a shop assistant.
Women are “biologically competitive” and their behavior is affected by what they perceive to be a “direct social threat”, the researchers explained.
Bianca Price, of the University of South Australia, said: “Retailers often think that beautiful is better.”
Many businesses believe that hiring ‘beautiful’ staff is a reflection of the brand and more female shoppers will be interested as they want to resemble the employees.
However, Ms Price explained that “it does not always work like that” as many women perceive attractive employees to be a “direct social threat”.
Instead companies should hire staff of all shapes and sizes, people that each potential customer can relate to, she concluded.
The survey questioned the shopping behaviour of 341 women aged between 18 and 26.

Women prefer to have a male boss as they are better managers and more authoritative, new research has revealed.
A study by Onepoll revealed that female employees like having a man in charge as they think men are less prone to moods and more straight-talking when in the workplace.
The women quizzed rated men as being better at delegating responsibilities, and tougher, but also more likely to give out praise.
Of those women who had a female boss, four out of ten said they could perform better than their supervisor.
However, the research showed that females were thought to have many more personable qualities than their male counterparts.
Respondents said that female managers are compassionate, good listeners, approachable and trustworthy.
A spokesman for Onepoll said the results show that there are “pros and cons to both sexes” as bosses.
“The results do paint a picture of men being a bit harder and more driven, but that isn’t always the kind of approach which is needed,” he explained.
Findings from the survey also revealed that more than two-thirds of women are happy in their current job.

A professional bubble maker has made a bid to break the world record for creating the largest free-floating bubble in the UK.
Sam Heath, 37, made the attempt in Finsbury Park in London using a piece of rope attached between two sticks and a top-secret bubble solution.
The bubble maker, who has previously performed for Dubai’s Royal Family and celebrities such as Paul McCartney, was hoping to beat the previous record of 105.4 cubic feet set in Minnesota in the US.
Following the record attempt, Mr Heath said he is confident it has “obliterated the former record”, adding that “this one dwarfs the American effort”.
The soap solution, which he has perfected over 20 years, is very important to the success of bubble making.
“With the right stuff you can make big bubbles with anything,” he explained.
Other factors important in influencing how a bubble turns out include the bubble maker’s technique and the surrounding environment.
Mr Heath is now waiting on confirmation of the result of his bid from the Guiness Book of Records.
Previously, the bubbleologist has made a bubble large enough to contain 50 people and has been awarded for creating the bubble with the largest number of bubbles inside.
