What you wear on New Year’s Eve depends a lot on what you are doing. If you’re having an intimate snuggle on the couch with your girlfriend, you can get away with sweatpants and a blanket. However, if you’re going out, make sure you’re equipped with the most fashionable duds.
There are many types of parties you could be going to. If you’re going to be outside, say, at Times Square, you’ll probably be seen mostly in outerwear. Leather is always a slick and fashionable choice, and looks good on most anyone. Top off your look with a good scarf, shoes, gloves and a hat. Black is the choice color for leather, but brown can look great as long as it’s well matched.
How to Dress for Black Tie Affair
A black tie affair calls for a completely different look. If the party you’re attending requires a tux and you don’t own one, your best bet will be to rent one. The salesperson will match you up with the best look. If you have a date, ensure you have an idea of what they’re wearing, if you intend to go as a matched couple.
Other fancy fashions lend themselves to elegant dinner parties or a trendy restaurant, you can get away with a suit. Charcoal, black, or dark blue are always in style. If you bought a coat off the rack, any reputable seller will be able to tailor it to you. There’s no need to go overboard if you already have a nice suit. Spruce it up with a snazzy dress shirt and tie for splashes of color. Make sure your shoes are shined and you should be good to go.
How to Dress for Less Formal Parties
Less formal parties, or celebrations at a bar should be treated with the same pizzazz. Since it’s probably chilly where you are, you should wear a spiffy jacket – a leather blazer or fashionable pea coat will be perfect for this. Remember, unless you live in a smoke-free town, you will be exposing a dry-clean-only item to an atmosphere full of smoke, and will need to have it cleaned when the festivities have died down.
How to Dress for a Club
For a bar, comfortable attire is acceptable. Also, where you live will influence your dressy fashion. In Texas, dress jeans, boots and a sport coat are acceptable for dressing up. However, you would be laughed at in New York City with attire like that. If you’re unsure about the place you’re going, black dress pants and a button-down shirt will look great. Since it’s party time, don’t feel limited to the white and off-white selections in your wardrobe. Feel free to wear more bold colors, like reds and rich purples. Pastel colors, while popular with the younger crowd for a while, are rapidly falling out of fashion and should be avoided. Remember, once you get to the bar, you probably won’t be wearing your coat much.
