DIY Car Maintenance Becomes More Popular
Increasing numbers of motorists are turning to do-it-yourself car maintenance as a means of reducing costs.
According to Castrol, there has been a 53 per cent increase in the number of drivers undertaking DIY maintenance, which compared to a 21 per cent year-on-year increase in 2008.
Car and motorcycle manual publisher Haynes has highlighted the benefits of DIY maintenance by saying that it can be cheaper and more convenient, particularly if the job at hand involves replacing windscreen wiper blades of failed lamps.
However, motorists are reminded to only undertake tasks that they're actually capable of doing - the more complicated jobs should always be left to a qualified garage.
"There are many straightforward car maintenance jobs which all motorists should be capable of," explained Haynes editorial director Matthew Minter.
"They're in the same category as frying an egg, ironing a shirt or changing a plug."
The first Haynes manual, which was about building an Austin 7 special, was published by John Haynes while he was still at school in 1965.
