Italian Lamborghini Gallardo Police Car Damages Total $250k Supercar
Car lovers all over the world will wince at news that a £150,000 ($249,411) supercar has been totaled at the hands of Italian police.
The 100km/h Lamborghini Gallardo Police Car was smashed beyond repair after police crashed the vehicle at a student jobs fair in Cremona in the north of the country.
Witnesses said the sleek sports car ploughed into two stationary vehicles after swerving to avoid another motor that crossed its path.
Nobody was seriously hurt, although one of the officers suffered a broken rib, while the other escaped with bruising.
The car, painted in the Italian police colors of blue and white, was given to the force as gift from the car luxury auto-manufacturer in 2004.
An elite team of drivers was trained to use the Gallardo, which can reach top speeds in excess of 300km/h, to chase speeding villains and deliver urgent organs for medical transplants.
Popular with stars such a soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo and rapper Akon, the Gallardo has a 500-horsepower engine and can reach 100km/h in just four seconds.
