Thanks to a Thierry Henry Handball the Republic of Ireland is now knocked out of the World Cup 2010 qualifiers.
The Republic lost the emotionally charged play-off match against France 2-1 on aggregate on Wednesday night as a result of Thierry Henry’s Handball & William Gallas’ extra-time goal in Paris. There was no doubt this is a clear handball and a disgraceful way for Ireland to not make it to World Cup 2010.
Thierry Henry Admits Handball
As furious Irish fans cry “cheat”, the Barcelona and former Arsenal forward emerged from the dressing room to say: “I will be honest, it was a handball. But I’m not the ref. I played it, the ref allowed it. That’s a question you should ask him.”
Republic of Ireland defender Richard Dunne, spoke to Henry on the final whistle, said: “He admitted afterwards he handled it, but it doesn’t make me feel any better because we are not going to the World Cup finals.
Although his sponsors are standing by his side fans are demanding he be tarred and feathered for his unsportsmanlike like conduct.Thierry Henry’s handball and the famed ’Hand of God’ during the 1986 World Cup, will now be synonymous to soccer fans all over the world from this day forward.
Despite the blatant handball it looks as though the match will stand and Henry’s handball will just be another horrible instance of a horrible call from a blind ref.
