More housework leads to better sex, survey claims

Married couples who spend more time on chores around the house have a better sex life, a new study has suggested.

Research undertaken by scientists at Montclair State University in New Jersey and printed in the Journal of Family Issues revealed that couples who spend more time on household tasks devote more time to sex.

However, the study suggested that one group of people may be high achievers in numerous aspects of life.

Constance Gager, lead researcher and an assistant professor of family and child studies at Montclair State University, said: “We’re not saying that housework causes sex, rather there are groups who ‘do it all’ and other groups who do not.”

She added that these “go-getters” are prioritizing time in their schedules to ensure that passion in their relationship continues to burn brightly.

The study examined the sex lives of 6,877 married couples related to their time availability, involvement in other activities and ideology of gender.

Further findings revealed that women spend much more time on household chores than men - the former devote 41.8 hours a week to cleaning while the latter spend 23.4 hours undertaking chores around the house.
