Economic Worries Will Not Stop Skiers
Ski-lovers will not be put off from taking on the slopes by financial worries brought on by the credit crunch, an outdoors event organizer has claimed.
Tim Holmes, show manager of the Metro Ski & Snowboard Show, which is currently being held in London, said that environmental and financial factors are conspiring against the skiing industry.
However, it is not the first thing that skiers give up following economic misfortune, the expert explained.
Mr Holmes said: “The difference with the skiing industry is that we have had a great snow season last year and everyone involved in skiing and snowboarding do it because it is a passion.”
He added that people are more likely to sacrifice a second holiday or a longer break.
Choice of destination is affected by exchange rates but “North America [and] Japan have great snow records”.
A recent study by InsureandGo showed that the US is cheaper for skiers than France.
The research, which compared the costs of skiing destinations, revealed that America has cheaper hotels and a more favorable exchange rate.
