Shakira Dressed as a Man to Attend University
Sexy pop star Shakira has revealed that she attended university in the US dressed as a man under a different name.
The Hips Don’t Lie singer made the comments in an interview with Britain’s Guardian newspaper.
She said she attended university following a world tour to promote the Rick Rubin executive-produced Oral Fixation.
The singer enrolled at University of California, Los Angeles to study a short course in history but went in disguise to avoid receiving too much attention from her devoted fans.
Shakira told the newspaper: “I used to wear a cap and a big backpack, I looked like a boy.”
“I didn’t get recognized. Some people looked at me very suspiciously, a few people asked me, but I told them my name was Isabelle. I would go to university over and over again if I could.”
The star undertook the academic course after her world tour finished in May 2007 as a way of unwinding from time on the road and playing concerts all over the globe.
