Road Rage is biggest Distraction for American Drivers
Road rage and seeking revenge on other drivers are thought to be the main distractions for drivers in the US, a new study has shown.
A survey from LeaseTrader.com revealed that 18.3 per cent of the 3,000 motorists quizzed thought that becoming angry with other motorists was their main distraction.
The research followed a recent federal order from US president Barack Obama, which was issued to prevent federal worker motorists from using their phones to text while behind the wheel.
Sergio Stiberman, chief executive officer and founder of LeaseTrader.com, said: “Although texting while driving can be very dangerous, these findings indicate that drivers seem to be almost immune to many other distractions that have been around for a long time.”
Although Road rage in America is the largest source of distraction, the research showed that eating and drinking was seen as the second biggest danger by 14.7 per cent of drivers.
Other distractions including kids in the car, passenger conversations and reading the newspaper were all deemed to be more dangerous than texting by respondents.
Texting received 7.6 per cent of the vote from drivers.
