Miss Venezuela Wins Miss Universe Competition

Miss Venezuela, 18-year-old Stefanie Fernandez, has been named as the winner of the Miss Universe competition.

The teenager was chosen by a judging panel at a live event from Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas.

She beat 83 other women to triumph in what was the sixth crown for the country in 59 years of the event.

Miss Dominican Republic, Ada Aimee De La Cruz, was the runner up with Miss Kosovo, Gona Dragusha finishing in third.

The rest of the top five consisted of Miss Australia, Rachael Finch and Miss Puerto Rico, Mayra Matos Perez.

Dayana Mendoza, Miss Universe 2008, crowned the new champion at the end of the two-hour ceremony.

Prizes include a two-year scholarship from the New York Film Academy worth more than $100,000 dollars, five nights for two at Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas, a whole new wardrobe and a New York apartment for the entirety of her ‘reign’.

Judges on the panel included actor Dean Cain, best known for his portrayal of Clark Kent in hit television series Superman and Farouk Shami, founder and chairman of CHI Hair Care.
