A 36-year-old German man has set a new world record by skating down a roller coaster.

Dick Auer, who is known across the globe for his dangerous stunts, reached speeds of 55 mph while skating down the 860-meter-long roller coaster at a theme park in Stuttgart.

The speed-freak had to spend 110 hours developing a specially-built pair of inline skates.

Each one had 16 wheeled inline rolls to afford him a better chance of taking on the ride and surviving.

Auer, who has been given the nickname Daredevil for his extreme record breaking attempts, described the stunt as “very dangerous” despite being “a lot of fun”.

The German said that there were a lot of factors to consider when preparing for the skate, especially as the ride was made out of wood.

It meant that the stunt was more dangerous as “there was always a chance of the odd nail or screw that would not be entirely flat”, which if hit could have led to his death.

Auer has made a career out of breaking extreme skating records, holding the inline speed skating record of 191mph while being dragged behind a Porsche.
