A man and woman who share the same name met after finding each other using Facebook and are now due to tie the knot.

The female Kelly Hildebrandt, from Florida, used the people search tool on Facebook to see if there were any other users with her name on the social networking website.

She found the 24-year-old male Kelly Hildebrandt, whom she exchanged messages with before meeting up in person.

The pair hit it off and as is customary in stories more often seen in Hollywood romantic comedies, the male Kelly proposed to her on a beach in December of last year, only eight months after they first met.

Ms Hildebrandt told Today that the pair are usually known as “Kelly girl” and “Kelly boy”.

Her husband-to-be said: “We’ve thought about Hildebrandt squared, but probably not that often.”

The pair have gone through ancestry records for the past 250 years to make sure they are not related so they can go ahead and tie the knot.

Facebook has shown it is not only a matchmaking tool but an innovative technological device after it played an important part in the creation of Live Music, a five-minute short animated film.

More than 50 people made the film after responding to an invitation sent through the website.
