Baywatch, the surfer show infamous for its red swimsuits and David Hasselhoff, is to be turned into a comedy for the silver screen.
The popular television show followed the adventures of a number of lifeguards in Los Angeles.
Paramount is reported to have hired Jeremy Garelick to produce a script despite having never watched the show.
He was responsible for writing The Break-Up starring Jennifer Aniston and assisted with Todd Phillips on his latest Hollywood comedy, The Hangover.
Philips told Variety that he saw an opportunity to turn the series into a Police Academy-esque screwball comedy.
Rumours suggest that the cinematic version will follow the attempts of two unlikely lifeguards trying to keep up with the activities of their bronzer and more chiselled colleagues.
The television programme featured the acting skills of ‘the Hoff’ as well as boosting the profiles of pin-ups Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra.
It is not known whether the lifeguards from the original series, which aired between 1989 and 1999, will be returning to the beach.
Hasselhoff starred in cult series Knight Rider during the 1980s and enjoyed a number one pop hit in Germany in 1989 with Looking for Freedom.
