The FIA has approved the new season of the A1GP, which pits countries against each other for motoring glory.

Drivers in A1GP races are all in the same cars and represent their country rather than a particular team. By doing this, drivers compete from a level playing field, race organisers argue.

A number of different race tracks are taken in over the course of the season, which runs from 2009 in to 2010.

Street circuits and more established traditional race tracks are used to host the races, so motor racing fans should not be disappointed by a lack of variety.

In total, ten dates were submitted for approval. The new calendar will begin in Australia over the weekend of the 22-25 October.

Although not all dates have yet been made public, A1GP organisers currently have plans to announce them with special events in the specific countries.

New venues for races are set to be added to the calendar this year, meaning that fans will not see a simple re-run of season four of the A1GP races. More dates to the calendar may also be submitted further down the line.
