Today (April 21st) saw the UK premiere of the new Star Trek film, which was directed by Lost creator JJ Abrams.

And speaking at the London premiere, stars of the film Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine and Karl Urban said they were all ready to be beamed back aboard the USS Enterprise after signing up to make two sequels.

Quinto, who plays Spock in the new film, said: “If they make more, we all signed on for three so if they want us to, we’ll board the ship again.”

And the Associated Press reports that Bones actor Karl Urban added that he would definitely be back for more and hoped the audience loves watching it as much as the actors enjoyed making it.

The New Scientist asserts that Abrams has pulled off the tricky task of bringing a franchise many considered to be outdated into the modern day, while keeping all the original characters on board.

It adds that the casting and characterisation are “immaculate”, while the plot and direction is “engaging and fast-moving”.

The article goes on to note that the technology featured in the new movie is more plausible than the films and TV shows which preceded it, adding that the whole franchise has now been given a re-boot.
