Holidaymakers should be reminded that they are welcome in the US, it has been suggested.
The U.S. Travel Association has called for concerted effort to bring more overseas visitors into the country.
And men could be a particular area for focus, in light of previous research from the body – especially if they have relatives in the US.
In November, the organisation found that women are more likely to value the social aspects of a getaway with family and friends.
Some 58 per cent of men believed that spending the festive period with their family would generate lasting memories, compared with 77 per cent of women.
Now, Kristy Chandler, director of communications at the U.S. Travel Association, calls for it to be made easier for people of either sex to visit the US.
She explains that concerns over how easy it might be to get a visa to enter the country prevent some holidaymakers from overseas from visiting.
Meanwhile, she adds that work should be done to attract more people in order to counteract the effects of the strengthening dollar.
With 48 million more international travellers having been recorded worldwide in 2008 than was the case in 2000, the prospects of attracting more to the US could prove to be strong if such work were to be carried out.
