A new “supersport” motorcycle has been unveiled by luxury car manufacturer BMW.
The S 1000 RR carries 206.5 kg of weight – the lowest of any 1000-cc motorcycle equipped with ABS – when filled with fuel, BMW says.
When running on empty, this weight drops to 183 kg.
Torque reaches up to 112 Nm or 82.5 lb-ft at 9,750 rpm, while maximum power is achieved at 13,000 rpm, when the engine can put out up to 193 bhp.
“Sporting” ergonomics aim to comfortably accommodate riders of a variety of sizes.
However, the vehicle itself is designed to aerodynamic standards, helping to carve through the air ahead.
Four different driving modes automatically adjust the set-up of the motorcycle for different track and road conditions.
Two of these are designed for racing and adjust to track travelling on slick or sports tyres.
Meanwhile, regular and wet set-ups are also available for normal road usage at the touch of a button.
The ABS adds 2.5 kg to the weight of the S 1000 RR and just 0.1 kg to the average weight per horsepower.
As a result, the per-horsepower weight of the motorcycle as a whole stands at 1.06 kg with the ABS fitted.
BMW terms the introduction of the vehicle a “true milestone” in the history of great sports machines.
